I've just finished to read the great novella The Last Defender of
Camelot, of my master Roger Zelazny. He was so great as a writer and as
an word artist...
Anyway, i just wanted to say this novel could easily be applied to the
shadow Avalon, and what happened to major characters of Avalon.
Merlin has been putting in sleep by a powerful spell, who made him sleep
for a millenia. He awakes now, in present time, and wish he could
proceed his plans. I don't tell the whole story, for those who want to
read the novella.
But...
Why Amber's Merlin could not be fixed in certain ways that he awokes in
the Courts of Chaos, in demoniac form (Merlin was said a dragon's son,
as i remembered), with others demons who said to him what he had to know
to serve the Courts ? His memory is partially lost, on the one hand
because of the charm, on the other hand because himself don't believe
any more he is Merlin. Corwin confirms that, for he don't recall this
Merlin. But is he really different than the one Corwin knew in his
shadow ?
Lancelot du Lac exists after the fall of Corwin's shadow Avalon, since
Corwin met him in Lorraine shadow. A different than the one Corwin knew,
again ? You are ready and willing to believe that ? ;-)
