Part One: Prelude.

Ezekiel stood on the balcony overlooking the Sea of Fire. The flaming waters
extended for as far as the eye could see. The beauty as the flames moved
across the water's surface seemed to fill Zeke with a sense of pride. The
flames, through some chemical reactions, seemed to move in slow
motion...adding an intense dramatic effect. He looked down the coast from his
high balcony and can see the Sister of Kolvir, the famous mountain of
glorious Amber. Here the Sister of Kolvir is called Mt. Hades.
Mt. Hades was a dark and forbidding place. She put forth huge dark clouds
from her volcanic mountain range. Many mountain peaks belching flames and
smoke and ash surrounded a central cone that was Hades itself rising like a
mighty spire into the heavens. A green glow and green smoke-like fog emanated
from the gaping opening in that volcanic beauty.
Zeke can feel the powerful draw of that place; it seemed to beckon for him to
enter into the cavernous opening in the side of Mt. Hades...a place known as
the Well of Souls. He turned and looked again to the sea, no ships sailed
there save for that of those who lived here in this place called Volcantrix.
He stood motionless and thought about the time he first came here. Simon
Magus brought him here and taught him how to use his Spirit Magic. Evelyn had
always been teaching Ezekiel and the other students at the school how to use
abilities that they did not then understand. She had each of them keep it a
secret then...
"We are ready to proceed, my Lord," came the Squire's low voice. Zeke looked
at the man and nodded. The two made their way through the Palace Fortress.
The immense structure has green marble everywhere and black statues and
balsitic sculptures ornamenting every room and passageway. In the Main Hall
Zeke paused to look at the two large statues of Simon Magus. Upon closer
inspection it can be seen that one statue is actually Malenious Hendrake, or
Simon 'The Pretender.' Zeke then moved on out into the elaborate and
extravagant Courtyard. There the man closest to Simon Magus, his Apprentice,
meets him.
"Greetings, Lord Roman," Ezekiel announced as he approached the man. The man
merely looked at him and nodded. "Everything is in readiness, my Lord,"
Ezekiel added.
The small group moved out toward the Main Gate and then to the city beyond.
The streets were filled with soldiers and equipment yet they are deathly
silent as Ezekiel and the others walked by them. At the head of the columns
another group of men and women meets them. These are the Commanders and
Generals Zeke noted and they are all Simon's Revenants.
[[ Revenant: Undead foot soldiers of The Magus. These Undead beings are
incredible fighters due to their zero self preservation and Kamikaze-like
tactics in battle. They exist on the HAN (or magic) of The Magus and serve
him or her completely. ]]
Two men approached Roman and Ezekiel, they are General Tobias and General
Garron...the trusted Minions of Simon and they took orders only from him or
Prince Osric. Along with Tobias and Garron came the Commanding Magus Quad
Unit. These Magus Quads were set in the mold of the D'Haran Quads and their
Mordsiths and many Magus Quads included one or two Mordsiths to shore up the
training and experience advantages that the D'Haran Quads possessed.
The Magus Quads, like the Moonriders of Ghesh, bore severe and hostile
looking tattoos, which had a special luminescence about them. They all
dressed in black cloaks and looked like they were from some surreal dream
with that green glow about the tattoos. Ezekiel knew these tattoos well and
knew that Simon branded the Magus Quads with these sigils to enhance their
somewhat inferior Magic and to increase their fighting potentials as Magus
Quads. A Magus Quad is second only to a D'Haran Mordsith Quad.
[[ sig*il (noun) [Middle English sigulle, from Latin sigillum -- more at
SEAL] First appeared 15th Century 1 : SEAL, SIGNET 2 : a sign, word, or
device held to have occult power in astrology or magic. ]]
"Simon has given us all our orders...may the Dark Flame rise within you,"
Roman stated to the gathered Magus and Soldier Elite. "May your Spirits be
added to the Well of Souls." All present then bowed and remained silent.
"You may begin your mobilization now Tobias, Garron..." Roman said with a
motion of his hand towards the seaports. They nodded and began ordering the
men and suddenly there was a flurry of activity as personnel and equipment
began to move quickly and efficiently. "Ezekiel, have your Black OPs Forces
ready in Remora. There is now tremendous weight on your shoulders, do not
fail the Magus."
Ezekiel nodded and also began barking orders and his Magus Quad Army began
mobilizing as well. Hector, Morgan, and Lillian all served in the same Magus
Quad assigned to protect Ezekiel and act as his immediate Military Chiefs of
Staff. Each Quad was composed of Magus Knights that all were raised in there
own separate schools the way that Zeke, Morgan, Hector, and Lillian were
raised on Shadow Earth by Evelyn. This bond and that of the sigil tattoos
added to the power of each unit in ways that few other Wizard Quads
could...this was a bonding of the Spirit.
Ezekiel knew his mission well. Attacking Remora would draw out Jaladriel and
Corwin from Amber. This would then allow Simon Magus and Osric to deal with
Benedict without Corwin's interference. Tobias and Garron would unleash
unheard of havoc and destruction, while the Magus Quads attacked with stealth
and secrecy.
Soon the Ships were underway and began to slowly rise from the seas and to
sail the air currents of the sky...a vast fleet of Air Ships molded after the
Ancient Chaos design. The Battle of Eregnor and the Battle of Begma had
produced many benefits, including these fine Naval vessels. The black fleet
flew silently, effortlessly above the Sea of Fire. The view is magnificent
and inspiring...Zeke viewed all this from the bridge of the lead Dreadnought.
The Shadows around the fleet began to fluctuate and Ezekiel could sense that
Roman was Altering Shadow as he called it. Roman had also told Zeke that he
could also learn to do this. Zeke had learned much already, but his
initiation would change all that and he thought about what the future would
bring as the fleet moved quietly off into dark and ominous shadows...
